Skin Care Quiz

I recently came across this great skincare quiz in a book I was reading at the library.  I thought it was a great way to see what your skin type is and wanted to share it with you.

You know best how your skin reacts to different things; so this will help you check your skin type before you buy a skincare line of products. The key to developing a skincare regimen that works is for you to analyze your skin type first.

Your skincare is not based on age, but on type.  So NEVER base your regimen on how old you are.  Not all anti-aging regimen’s are going to work for everyone.

Here is how you need to take the skincare quiz:

Start by answering the questions; then add up your score and check the list at the end to discover which of the skin types you fit into.

  1. How does your skin feel if you cleanse it with facial wash and water?
    1. Tight, as though it’s too small for your face.
    2. Smooth and comfortable.
    3. Dry and itchy in places.
    4. Fine – quite comfortable.
    5. Dry in some areas and smooth in others.
  2. How does your skin feel if you cleanse it with cream cleanser?
    1. Relatively comfortable.
    2. Smooth and comfortable.
    3. Sometimes comfortable, sometimes itchy.
    4. Quite oily.
    5. Oily in some areas and smooth in others.
  3. How does your skin usually look by the middle of the day?
    1. flaky patches appearing.
    2. Fresh and clean.
    3. Flaky patches and some redness.
    4. Shiny.
    5. Shiny in T-zone.
  4. How often do you break out in spots?
    1. Hardly ever.
    2. Occasionally, perhaps before or during your period.
    3. Occasionally.
    4. Often – in T-zone.
  5. How does your skin react when you use facial toner?
    1. It stings.
    2. No problems.
    3. Sting and itches.
    4. Feels fresher.
    5. Feels fresher in some areas but stings in others.
  6. How does your skin react when you have applied a rich night cream?
    1. It feels very comfortable.
    2. Comfortable.
    3. Sometimes feels comfortable, other times feels irritated.
    4. Makes your skin feel very oily.
    5. Oily in the T-zone, comfortable on the cheeks.

Ok, now for the results to your skincare quiz:

  • If most of your answers are A’s: Your skin is DRY.
  • Mostly B’s: Your skin is NORMAL.
  • Most of your answers are C’s: Your skin is SENSITIVE.
  • Are you mostly D’s?: Your skin is OILY.
  • How about E’s: Your skin is COMBINATION.

Now that you have taken the skincare quiz and you know your skincare type what products should you choose?

Care for Dry Skin:

A soothing cream cleanser or micellar water that cleanses away makeup and impurities while moisturizing can be a good choice for you.  Stay away from using soap.  Opt for a gentle, nourishing approach that boosts the skin’s moisture.  Be sure to use a gentle upward motion when removing the cleanser. After washing your face try splashing your face with cool water to remove excess cleanser, refresh your skin and improve circulation.  Now you can moisturize. If you have a skincare concern; like wrinkles and are choosing to use a serum, put that on before your moisturizer.

Care for Combination Skin:

As with dry skin – choose an oil-based make-up remover to clear away eye makeup.  Use a foaming cleanser facial wash in the morning to ensure oily areas are clean. Splash with cool water.  Also cleanse your face in the evening, but switch to a cream cleanser.

I recommend Avon’s Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser.  It is a foaming cleanser and cream cleanser.

This will balance excess oiliness and dryness.  Massage well into your skin, focusing more on the drier areas.  To freshen your skin you can choose a toner then moisturize your entire face; again focusing on the drier areas.  Blot off any excess from the oily areas with a tissue.

Care for Normal Skin:

It is rare to find perfectly normal skin – so take good care of it.  You are the envy of all your friends.  Your routine should be gentle and daily to continue having great skin.  Always remove eye-makeup.  Choose a cleanser based on whether you are wearing ordinary or waterproof.

Use a gentle face wash, work up a lather and rinse with cool water.  Cool your skin with a freshening toner then finish with a moisturizing lotion to keep your moisture balanced. Enjoy your normal skin – I’m jealous…:)

Care for Oily Skin:

Choose a non-oily makeup remover or use a gentle foaming facial wash.  Keeping in mind that you don’t want to strip away moisture; which soap can do. Use an astringent and sweep it across your face to keep your face refreshed.  Even oily skin needs moisture. Don’t load it down with a lot of moisturizer; just a small balanced amount will due.  Let the moisturizer sink in for a few minutes and then press a clean tissue over your face to absorb the excess and to prevent a shiny complexion.

**IMPORTANT CLEANSING NOTE** Don’t rub at your skin, especially around your eyes as this can cause wrinkles.  Be sure to pat your face with a soft towel to absorb residual water from the surface of your skin. Also, if you have dry skin – DO NOT use an astringent it will just dry out your skin.
