This year I was asked if I would be willing to set up a tent for the American Cancer Society’s Strides Against Breast Cancer Event (of which Avon is the National Sponsor) and represent Avon.
Participating in this event is something I have always wanted to do, but it is almost 300 miles from where I live. However, when I was asked if I would do it, I of course said – “yes.”
My family planned to come with me, so we packed up everything Avon sent me for the Strides Against Breast Cancer Event and went up the day before. The drive was amazing to say the least. The fall leaves were in full bloom and the sun was shining the whole way.
Everything had to be ready by 9 a.m. before registration; so my husband came along and helped me get the tent set up. I wouldn’t have wanted to do it without him. Especially the driving. I don’t know if I could have found it by myself even with Google maps help…LOL….
It was pretty cold in the early morning hour and I don’t do too well in the cold; so I was very thankful for his help. Later in the am before the event started my friend and team member; Darlene arrived to help me for the rest of the day. She too was a great help to me and I would not have wanted to do it without her.
Once the registration began; the crowds started coming to our table. Everyone that came to our table wanted a chance to enter the sweepstakes drawing for a trip to New York valued at over $4,000 and get their free Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye bag.
After filling out the sweepstakes they could choose to kiss a sticker that said kiss breast cancer goodbye, put the name of someone they wanted to honor on the sticker with a permanent marker, then kiss it with a sample lipstick and place it on the Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye wall. Almost everyone who came to the table wanted to honor someone even if was themselves for having survived breast cancer.
Anyone who was a breast cancer survivor had a sticker on that had the years that they had been a breast cancer survivor. I gave each of them a big hug and asked if they would take a picture with me for my blog and they were happy to. Here are just a couple.
Thankfully I was able to walk because Darlene was willing watch the table during the walk. It was a beautiful day and I didn’t want to miss walking with my family and the new people I had met. We walked a 5K and it was worth every mile. The sun was shining, the leaves were in their magnificent fall colors and the scenery was beautiful with the mountains and the ocean view.
All-in-all it was a great day for the Strides Against Breast Cancer Event. Everyone that came seemed to have a great time participating; myself included.
Next year I hope to host a Strides Against Breast Cancer event here in my hometown and raise more many than I did this year. This year I raised close to $200 just a couple of weeks before the walk; so, next year I should be able to raise a whole lot more if I start early.
