How to get Avon Bug Guard Shipped to Alaska

Having lived in Alaska for over 20 years I can attest to how irritating mosquitos and gnats can be.

My husband and I owned a fishing lodge on the Kasilof River and had Avon’s Bug Guard available for our clients to use while they stayed with us.

We no longer have the fishing lodge, but we do still use Avon’s Bug Guard and recommend it to everyone we know who wants to protect themselves from mosquitos and gnats without the use of harmful smelling DEET.

Did you know that there are 35 species of mosquitos in Alaska? I did not know that until I did the research.

If you have lived here long enough or been a visitor to our great state you know that mosquitos are at their highest from June to around the last week of July to even early August. Mostly found along the riverbanks, lakes, ponds and high brush.

Those little nibblers can really be annoying when you are out fishing, hiking or doing anything else outdoors.

With all that said, if you have come to this particular blog post you are familiar with Avon’s Bug Guard line of products and want to know how to get it shipped to where you are within the state.

Unfortunately, you may have tried ordering online to find out that the product won’t ship to you due to hazmat regulations.

Well, I have some good news. As an Avon Independent Representative I can order Avon Bug Guard for you and have it shipped to you via USPS.

Because I am within the state of Alaska as long as it ships ground within the state, I can send it.

Usually I have the product on hand for my local customers on the Kenai Peninsula; so, you shouldn’t have to wait for me to order them.

Unless I am out of the Bug Guard products, I can ship what I have available right away by placing your products into USPS packaging and taking it to the post office.

You will only pay the USPS shipping cost; I do not charge for handling and taking it to the post office for you.

The EPA recommends DEET free Bug guard

The centers of disease control and prevention suggest using insect repellent products that have been registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency.

DEET, Picaridan, IR3535 and oil of lemon eucalyptus are all EPA registered ingredients and are certified to help prevent insect bites that could lead to West Nile virus, Zika Virus or other illnesses.

Most insect repellants out there are loaded with toxic chemicals, including the pesticide DEET, which is so poisonous that even the Environmental Protection Agency says you should wash it off your skin when you return indoors, avoid breathing it in and not spray it directly on your face.

One of the most serious concerns of DEET is it’s effect on the central nervous system.

Check out the following article:  http://www.environmentalhealth.ca/spring03hazards.html

The good news is that Avon has a line of products that are DEET free.

Avon bug guard is an EPA registered insect repellent that has been around since 1999. It’s deet free and has a variety of formulas. It has been proven to be effective as S.C. Johnson’s OFF!! Which contains DEET!!

Avon Bug Guard FAQ

Is it safe for my family?

The answer to that question, would be yes.  According to the EPA, Picaridin and IR3535 is safe for the whole family; including children, pets, pregnant and nursing mothers.  However; should be applied with the following guidelines in mind:
  • Apply repellents only to exposed skin.
  • Do not use repellents under clothing.
  • Never use repellents over cuts, wounds or irritated skin.
  • Do not apply to eyes or mouth, and apply sparingly around ears.
  • When using sprays, do not spray directly on face – spray on hands first and apply to face.
  • Use just enough repellent to cover exposed skin. Heavy application and saturation are generally unnecessary for effectiveness.
  • If biting insects do not respond to a thin film of repellent than apply a but more.
  • If using products containing Picaridin wash treated skin with soap and water after use.
  • Keep repellent out of reach of children.  Do not apply to their hands – they may put their hands in their mouth.
  • For children under the age of 2 consult a doctor.

What are the active ingredients in the product?

Avon Bug Guard formulas contain either one of the following EPA registered active ingredients.

  • Picaridin is a synthetically derived ingredient and is an effective alternitive to DEET. It has a low odor with a light clean feel. This syntheticially based ingredient should be washed off after use.
  • IR3535 is botanically based ingredient. It is non-greasy and an effective repellent that protects agaings a broad range of insects. It is a gentle formula that does not have to be washed off after use or returning indoors.
Which Avon Bug Guard Should I use?

If you’ll be outdoors during dusk or dawn and in areas where mosquitos and insects are most active SSS bug guard plus Picaridin would be the best choice.

If you’ll be out and about during the day when sun protection and insect protection is both needed then one of the SSS bug guard plus IR3535 formulas would be best.

Either of these products come in an aerosol spray, pump spray or lotion.
