Choosing Direct Marketing Business

choosing direct marketing Business

Choosing a Direct Marketing Business can be complicated.  Are you looking to make make money from home and considering a direct marketing business? Whether it is Avon, Plexus, Amway or any other direct marketing business; there are a few things you need to consider in your decision process.

Take your time

I wanted to make money from home and took a lot of time considering what it was I wanted to do.  It is a bigger decision than you may think.  Don’t just get into something because someone else is making money at it or because you felt pressured.  Direct marketing may not be for you. Before you make a decisions you need to be informed.  I hope the information in this post will be a help to you.

Learning the hard way

There is a company; I would rather not mention, where it seemed as though everyone was making money at it.  At least that is the way it looked on facebook.  A close friend of mine talked me into this health company.  Told me how much money everyone was making and how their marketing approach was like no other.  So, I jumped in.

The truth was that it was hard convincing people that they needed this product and the ones that did try it either couldn’t afford it, didn’t want to become a distributor to sell it and save or it made them sick (which I was told could happen, but it was because they needed to continue taking it to get over the hump).

This product was a hard sell and it wasn’t long before I decided it wasn’t for me.  Unfortunately, I spent over $200 and never earned it back.

Watch out for the Big Lie

Has anyone shared a product with you and told you that you could make money if you signed up?  They believe in their product and what it does and how the opportunity has made “them” money.  That doesn’t mean they are actually making a lot of money.

Remember they are going to make money by building their team and some will say anything to get you to sign up.  Even lie about their earnings.  Perhaps they have convinced you that this product has helped them.  Maybe it did, but how long did it take and did they diet while doing it just to get people to buy into their business.  I have seen this happen even with people I knew very well.

Integrity is worth more than money

So you see on Facebook how one of your friends has lost 50# with the product they are selling and they just love, love, love it!!. Just because it works for them doesn’t mean it is going to work for you. A

Also, just because they say it is working for them doesn’t meant that they are solely relying on that product.  Remember – they are trying to sell that product.  If they are not sharing what else they are doing then they are not being completely honest about the product they are selling.

Your friend is making money, you want to make money too and get excited and go all in just to find that the product didn’t work for you like it worked for your friend.  Now you are all in, spent the money and it was more than you wanted to spend to get into it.

Can’t quit now, spent too much to to just give up. So you do what your friend is doing; by telling half truths (which are lies)  to get your friends and family to join your team and into buying your product.   BE CAREFUL, YOUR INTEGRITY IS WORTH MORE THAN THAT!!

My advice: ALWAYS TRY THE PRODUCT FIRST!!  NEVER LIE to sell your product or get people to join your team.

Love what you are selling or don’t sell it!!

More on trying it first

This is the mistake I made with the company I jumped into.  I figured if I become an ambassador first, got people under me I would then be able to afford the product.  I should have realized that if I couldn’t afford it to begin with to try it, I shouldn’t have joined.

Joining any company to make money without trying the product first is a bad idea.  It doesn’t have to be all of the products, but let’s say for example you get into a business where you will be selling products that help you lose weight and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle.  How do you know it works if you haven’t tried it?  Are you going to talk your friends into joining just because you want to build a team so you can be successful at the risk of them not liking the product??

I had tried Avon products years ago when my mom sold it and I remembered that they had a huge product line.  So because it cost so little; I decided to give it a try because I was going to receive $80 worth of product to try for $25 and if I didn’t do well at it; then it only cost me $25 not $200.

Questions you need to ask yourself

I looked into every product out there. When I say “every” I mean “every.”   It took time to see what was right for me.

Ask yourself these questions:

What is the product line? How many products are they selling?

If it is just one product, will people be interested in that one product I am selling.  One of the reasons I chose Avon was because it has a wide variety of product: makeup, skincare, fragrances, fashion, home products, seasonal and kids.

I liked the fact that it had such a variety for my customers to choose from.  Products I knew they would want to shop for online as well as with the catalog Avon provides.

What is the cost of the products?

Can I sell the product based on the price point?  Would my customers continue to come back based on the cost?  I went to every eStore I wanted to check out.  Almost every one was more than I was willing to spend; so, how could I expect my customers to spend what I am not willing to spend.  Not that they wouldn’t, but I just felt that I would only want to sell what was cost effective to me and to others.

Do I like the product?   Would I use it?

You certainly wouldn’t want to sell it something you don’t like.  I knew that I liked the Avon product and would use it.

What does it cost to start?

What do I get when I sign up?  Is it worth the cost?  I chose Avon because it was only $25 to join and that is what I could afford.  I figured that if it didn’t work out; I only spent $25 instead of $50 or $100.

Is the website I will get from signing up user friendly?

I went to every site I found interest in and found that I had to register before I could even see the price of the product to be a customer.  I didn’t go back. Avon’s website was user friendly and I knew that my future customers would find it easy as well.

Of course the most important question, what is the commission on my sales?

So many direct marketing companies out there would only pay 25% – 35%!!  I was shocked!!  That for me was not worth all my time and effort.  That is also why I chose Avon because I earned 40% right away with my first 4 campaigns and then after that 25% – 50%.  I never earned less than 35%.  I now earn a guaranteed 40% to 50% because I am in President’s Club on all my direct sales and 40% on all of my online sales. Except for home and fashion; which is 25%.  I achieved President’s Club within my first year.

Final Question

After doing your own research online ask yourself these final question:  What do I want to sell and is direct marketing for me?? Am I willing to do what it takes?

Not a get quick rich scheme

If you are considering direct marketing as a way to make some extra cash or to make a career with; it takes time and patience. No matter what you choose to get into; you will NOT get rich quick.  It takes work, dedication and a love for what you are doing. You will also need to spend some money; whether, it is on samples, catalogs or advertising.  Don’t expect to just get into something and not put any money into it.  It doesn’t work that way.

If it is a company like Avon, where they have a lot of products to choose from; consider purchasing a few products you usually purchase at the store and give them a try.  Because of Avon’s 100% money-back guarantee, you have nothing to lose.

Note: If you are going to do more than one business; I recommend that you always be sure to read your policies before taking on more than one direct marketing company to make sure they don’t conflict.  I highly recommend only sticking with ONE and making it your focus.

I “LOVE” direct marketing.  I love the people I come into contact with; including my customers and my team members.  If you would like more information regarding Avon; please feel free to contact me.  If you are ready to get started with Avon just click on the links below.
